Filippo Berio Extra Virgin Olive Oil Review

filippoBerio

Extra Virgin Olive Oil is my preference over butter.  Although, I have used probably every brand possible, I tend to stick with one brand I enjoy.  However, I was excited to try Filippo Berio Olive Oil. Not familiar?  Neither was I.

Filippo Berio Olive Oil is steeped in the Tuscan tradition and expertise of its founder Filippo Berio.  For nearly 150 years, they have been crafting distinctive olive oils that maintain a classic Italian flavor that stays true to the version of their founds

Adding olive oil to your diet is a wonderful way to incorporate healthy cooking not to mention it is heart healthy.  I received a free bottle of Filippo Berio to try through bzz agent.  First some facts:

-100% natural

-high in monounsaturated fats (good fats)

-Contains no trans-fat or cholesterol

-No sugar, salt or gluten

-Can help reduce the risk of heart disease, as well as help control blood pressure and blood sugar levels.

When this arrived, I knew this would be the ideal opportunity to try it on my sautéed onions and peppers. I must say Filippo Berio is tasty!  It does have a bit of a peppery after-taste, but I think that may be typical with pure olive oil that is high quality.  It does have a distinct green/yellowish coloring, again this is normal.  My family really enjoyed the peppers and onions a top our Italian sausage.  Although extra virgin olive oil is ideal for salad dressings, marinades, sauces or dipping crusty breads, I use it for my cooking which is why I couldn’t wait to make my baked parmesan potato wedges. Again, fantastic!  They were full of flavor, didn’t stick while baking and left the outsides with a perfect crunch.   I’ve been enjoying Filippo Berio Extra Virgin Olive oil numerous times a day but here are a few additional uses:

-Salad Dressing:  In a small bowl, whisk together 1/3 cup wine or cider vinegar, salt and pepper.  Slowly whisk in 1 cup of Filippo Berio Extra Virgin Olive Oil until well blended.  Serve over fresh salad greens.

-Pasta Perfection: Place 1/3 cup of Filippo Berio Extra Virgin Olive Oil and 2 large garlic cloves in a microwavable dish and cover with waxed paper.  Microwave on high for about 2 minutes, or until sizzling.  Drizzle it over 1 pound of spaghetti; toss with fresh parsley, salt and crushed red pepper.

-Healthy Finish:  Keep a cruet of Filippo Berio Extra Virgin Olive Oil on your table to drizzle and enhance the flavor of vegetables, baked potatoes, soups and stews.
